Hatters Down Kennesaw State to Clinch No. 3 Seed

Four Hatters score in double figures

Kennesaw, Ga. -- Mali Morgan-Elliott certainly made the most of her time Thursday night.  The Hatter junior scored 15 points in 15 minutes off the bench, burying three straight 3-pointers in the second quarter, to help lift Stetson to a 75-64 victory over Kennesaw State at the Convocation Center.

Marietta native Yazz Wazeerud-Din led the way with 19 points as the Hatters (17-11, 10-5 ASUN) improved to 9-1 in their last 10 games. Stetson also clinched the No. 3 seed in the ASUN East Division, setting up a first round matchup vs. Bellarmine next Wednesday night at the Edmunds Center.

Jamiya Turner was strong on both ends of the court, registering 15 points and 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.

With starting forward Tatiana Streun limited by foul trouble, Morgan-Elliott delivered some key minutes, going 6-for-8 from the floor with three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  ASUN Newcomer of the Week Alyssa Hargrove added 12 points.

Streun had a double milestone night, recording her 1200th career point and 800th career rebound. She surpassed the combined 2000 career point-plus-rebound total as well.

Stetson went 6-for-13 from behind the arc in the first half to take a 40-27 lead at the break.  The Hatters extended the lead to 22 in the second half before the Owls cut it down to seven in the final minute of the game.  Stetson shot 43 percent from the floor and outrebounded KSU (9-17, 5-10) 44-28.

Stetson will return home to host UNF at 4 p.m. Saturday in the regular season finale.  The Hatters will honor their seniors and graduates prior to the game.
