Hatters set to host UNF for Senior Day

DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's basketball team gets set for its final regular season game as the Hatters take on University of North Florida on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Edmunds Center. Before the 1 p.m. tip-off, the Hatters will honor their three seniors, Christiaan Jones, Wyatt Hollmann, and manager Rex Walters for Senior Day. All the action will be streamed on ESPN+.

Recap
The Hatters come off their fourth straight loss as Stetson fell 75-71 at Kennesaw State on Wednesday night. Chase Johnston led all scorers with 23 points as the sophomore went 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. Wheza Panzo shot 5-for-7 from downtown and finished with 19 points, one shy of his career high. Stephan Swenson tallied 15 points of his own and added eight dimes.

Scouting the Ospresy
North Florida enters Saturday's contest having won three of its last four games, highlighted by back-to-back wins against Liberty and FGCU. After starting off 0-6 in ASUN play, the Ospreys have gone 6-3 and sit one game ahead of the Hatters in the East Division standings.

The Ospreys have been led by Jose Placer, Carter Hendricksen and Jarius Hicklen as the trio has averaged 14.9, 12.6 and 11.6 points per game respectively. As a team, the Ospreys shoot 41.6 percent from the field and 34.1 percent from downtown.

Last Time We Met
The Hatters made an early statement in conference action as Stetson defeated UNF 68-66 in overtime on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Johnston. The Hatters look to sweep the Ospreys on the year and lock up the No. 5 seed in the East.

Scouting the Hatters
Stetson enters Saturday's game with a 5-10 record in ASUN action and 11-17 overall in the 2022 season. The Hatters are currently the sixth seed in the East but a win over UNF would bump them to the No. 5 seed.

The Hatters sport a balanced offense that runs through Johnston and Jones with added support from Wheza Panzo off the bench. Johnston is now sixth in the ASUN in points per game with 15.0 while Swenson is second in the league with 5.1 assists per game. As a team, the Hatters shoot 43.3 percent from the field and 34.9 percent from beyond the arc.

Looking Ahead
Saturday's game will decide where the Hatters head to next as a win would send them on the road to face the No. 4 seed in the West, but a loss will pit them against the No. 3 seed in the west, University of Central Arkansas. The first round of the ASUN Men's Basketball championship tournament is set for Tuesday, March 1. All the action will be streamed on ESPN+.
