DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson University women's tennis team swept its weekend matches as the Hatters topped Oakland University 7-0 on Saturday and then played to a hard-fought 5-2 win over St. John's on Sunday at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
The Hatters (9-1) rolled past Oakland Saturday morning as Stetson won in straight sets, highlighted by three 6-0 shutouts in doubles play.
On Sunday, the Hatters faced more adversity as the Red Storm (5-4) topped Stetson 2-1 in doubles and entered singles action with a 1-0 lead. The deficit did not last long as Alanna Di Francesco got the Hatters on the board with a win in two sets on court 5. Then on court 6, Elodie Foster put Stetson on top 2-1 as she came away with a two-set victory.
The Red Storm knotted the match at 2-2 after St. John's Mouna Bouzgarrou topped Nadejda Maslova on court 1, but the Hatters responded with wins from Anais Gabriel on court 2 and Cheri Darley on court 3 to seal the win. Noa Cohen also added a victory to her ledger as she went three sets with St. John's Jayden Nielson, eventually coming out on top with a 6-4 win in set three.
The Hatters are back at it on Saturday, March 5 as Stetson hosts College of Charleston at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
