ORLANDO, Fla. - Taking on its first nationally-ranked opponent of 2022, the Stetson University men's tennis team was taken down by No. 58 University of Central Florida at the USTA National Campus on Friday evening.
The Knights started the match by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3, while the Hatters' team at No. 2
Josh Laka and
Tim Gennes were leading their opponents 4-2.
Highlighting Stetson's singles play at Flight 2 was
Tristan Dumas, who was the only Hatters player to win a first set. He actually held a 6-4, 3-2 lead over 61st-ranked Trey Hilderbrand before the night's match was clinched by UCF.
"This was not our best showing tonight," Hatters head coach
Christophe Noblet said. "UCF was very solid and took advantage right from the beginning. We battled to stay alive but could not quite stay in the match long enough. We will learn from it and get ready for Sunday."
Stetson will get back on the court on Sunday, returning to Mandy Stoll Tennis Center for its last match before starting ASUN play. The Hatters will face Omaha with a 1 p.m. start time.Â
