DELAND, Fla. - The Stetson University softball team took a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning, but could not hang on and fell 3-1 to the Florida International Panthers Saturday afternoon in their third game of the Stetson Invitational at Patricia Wilson Field.
Sophomore Lauren Hobbs (1-3) went the distance for Stetson (9-10) as the southpaw tossed all seven innings, allowed just one earned run on seven hits, did not walk a batter and struck out three.
The Hatters put their lone run on the board in the bottom the first inning. Junior Brianna Clary led the game off with a single, moved to third on the first of two hits by senior Danielle Diaz, who went 2-for-2 on the day with a walk, and scored on a grounder by sophomore Juls Schumacher.
Florida International (14-9) took advantage of a Stetson error in the top of the sixth to plate its three runs and then held on to claim the victory.
