DELAND, Fla. - In the final game of the second day of the Stetson Invitational at Patricia Wilson Field, the Stetson University softball team could only manage a pair of hits and the USC Upstate Spartans won for the fourth time this weekend taking the game by a 6-0 score.
The Spartans (17-1) held just a 2-0 lead through five innings but blew the game open with a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh frames to seal their win.
For Stetson (9-11), junior Brianna Clary led the way offensively going 2-for-4 on the night, her seventh multi-hit game of the season. Her third hit of the night came in the sixth, as the Hatters would load the bases, with their best chance to break the scoreless drought.
However, the Spartans' Alyssa Kelly (6-0) stranded the bases loaded and then closed the game in the seventh with two Hatters left in scoring position as well.
