Stetson clinches spot in upcoming ASUN Men's Tennis Championship

The Hatters register a 7-0 victory at Bellarmine to secure it

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Thanks to its 7-0 victory at Bellarmine on Thursday afternoon, the Stetson University men's tennis team secured a spot in the upcoming ASUN Men's Tennis Championship. The Hatters, who had lost their first three league matches, responded by winning a season-best four straight to claim the spot. All those victories have been in league action, marking the first time the team has won four straight league matches since 2018, when the team closed that season on a five-match win streak.

Stetson took the double points with a pair of 6-1 victories. On court 2, Sven Thiergard and Ervin Eminefendic improved to a team-best 9-4 this season, while Tim Gennes and Josh Laka won their fourth straight match at flight 3.

In singles, the Hatters all won in straight sets highlighted by Gennes (flight 5) and Sami Ozzor (flight 6), who both won their fourth consecutive match, with Gennes picking up his team-best 12th and Ozzor winning his 10th. Other victors included No. 1 Diogo Marques (record now 9-7), No. 2 Tristan Dumas (8-5), No. 3 Thiergard (5-3) and No. 4 Fabian Penzkofer (7-3).

"We got the job done today," Stetson head men's tennis coach Christophe Noblet said. "We adapted well to the conditions and stayed focus until the end. We are now looking forward to an exciting and tough challenge against Liberty on Saturday. Go Hatters!"

Stetson will take on the 72nd-ranked Liberty Flames (7-0 winners over #70 North Florida, Thursday) in its final regular season match on Saturday starting at 3 pm before heading to Fort Myers, Florida for the ASUN Men's Tennis Championships that start on Friday, April 22.
