GAINESVILLE, Fla. - In its second meeting with the nationally-ranked Gators this season and its first trip to Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium since 2014, the Stetson University softball team lost to No. 9 Florida, 5-0, on Wednesday night in the Hatters' final non-conference midweek matchup of the year.
Lauren Klein got the start in the circle for the Hatters and worked two scoreless frames before the Gators struck for two in the third. With runners on the corners and one out, Stetson turned its 21st double play of the year to end the inning. The team entered the week 35th in the nation in DPs turned per game (0.42)
Florida (36-12), though, would tack on single runs in the third, fourth and fifth frames to slowly increase its lead, two of which were unearned.
Stetson (20-29) was limited to three baserunners and no more than one in a single inning.Â
Evette Morgan was hit by a pitch in the second, then
Haley Fox (fourth) and
Kami Eppley (fifth) each notched a single and then stole second. It was Fox's 11th of the year, while Eppley is now 9-for-9, however all three were left on base.
The Hatters return to action for their final ASUN home series this weekend when they welcome Kennesaw State to Patricia Wilson Field for a three-game set that starts on Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch for Game 1 is set for 1 pm, while prior to Sunday's final game, five Hatters will be honored pregame as part of Senior Day.
