DELAND, Fla. - In a Saturday ASUN doubleheader against the Kennesaw State Owls at Patricia Wilson Field, Stetson University softball junior
Brianna Clary notched a team-high three hits, and with her third, reached the 100-hit milestone in her career as a Hatter. However, Stetson was unable to hold down the Owls' offense and dropped both games
Kennesaw State (17-26, 8-12 ASUN) scored seven runs over the final three frames in the first game of the day and won it 8-0. The Owls continued their scoring output in the second game, scoring five times through the first four innings to take a 5-0 lead.
Stetson (20-31, 9-11 ASUN) got on the board in the home half of the fifth after loading the bases with one out started by back-to-back singles by
Alyssa Gilman, her second hit of the game, and Clary - her milestone hit.
Kara Saylor was then hit by a pitch before
Danielle Diaz singled up the middle to drive in two.
The Owls answered back with two in the top of the sixth to reclaim a five-run lead before Stetson made it interesting in the seventh.
Gilman and Clary started off the frame with back-to-back walks, and loaded the bases with two outs. However, Owl pitcher Melanie Bennett, who won Game 1, came in and closed Game 2 to earn the save.
The teams will finish the series on Sunday with first pitch set for 1 pm, which will be preceded by Senior Day festivities. The events will begin approximately 20 minutes prior to first pitch as the team will honor five members of the program -
