Stetson looking to reverse fortunes against FGCU

The Hatters, who have lost eight straight to the Eagles, host them this weekend

DELAND, Fla. - In a three-versus-five matchup in the ASUN East Division Standings, the Stetson University softball team welcomes Florida Gulf Coast to Patricia Wilson Field this weekend for a three-game series. The Eagles have won eight straight meetings between the two schools and 16 of the last 20 in the series. The Hatters, who haven't beaten FGCU at home since 2017, last won a series against the Eagles on March 28-29, 2015 when they swept them in a three-game set at home.

The series gets underway with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 9 starting at 1 pm, while Sunday's single game on April 10 is also set for a 1 pm first pitch. All games this weekend can be seen on ESPN+ or can be followed along through live stats. Stetson Hatters (16-22, 5-4 ASUN) Last Three Games: W, 2-1 vs. Bethune-Cookman | W, 4-3 at Eastern Kentucky | L, 11-0 at Eastern Kentucky
- Despite the Eagles win streak over the Hatters, Stetson holds a 14-6 edge all-time in games in DeLand. - Lizzie Shubert and Jordyn Stanfill each hit their fourth home runs of the season in Stetson's last game, which is good for second on the team behind Juls Schumacher's five.
- Brianna Clary (.333) and Danielle Diaz (.330) lead the team in batting average, while Clary's 29 runs scored ranks third in the league and her 41 hits are fifth-best. - Lauren Klein earned her team-high sixth victory on Wednesday in a complete-game effort as she and Lauren Hobbs (2.42) have 6-6 records; Hobbs leads the staff with 65 Ks while Hobbs leads the team with 92.2 innings thrown.
- In league-only games, Hobbs is 5-0 in six starts, has a 1.23 ERA in 40.0 innings and 27 strikeouts.
- At the plate in ASUN-only games, Clary is batting .444, Diaz is at .429 and each has an on-base percentage north of .500 (.516/.517), while Marissa Baxter leads the team with seven RBI.

FGCU Eagles (13-22, 6-6 ASUN)  Last Three Games: W, 3-0 vs. Jacksonville State | L, 1-0 vs.Jacksonville State | W, 5-2 vs. Jacksonville State (8 inn.) - FGCU leads the all-time series 25-19, gaining the edge with those eight straight wins, that all occurred last season. - Cana Davis ranks second in league batting average (.415) and slugging percentage (.841) and is third with eight home runs this season.
- Emily Estroff gives the Eagles a dynamic offensive duo, hitting .324 in the lineup - Ally Hulme has made the most appearances in the circle this season at 23 with 17 starts, 2.55 ERA and a 9-9 record overall while sitting sixth in the league with 78 Ks through 104.1 innings.
- Riley Oakes has 11 starts under her belt this season while Madi Wicker has made 10 relief appearances and leads the rotation with a 2.03 ERA and .250 opponent batting average.

OF NOTE: Stetson SAAC will be hosting a canned food drive at several of our sporting events throughout the first half of the month of April to benefit the Hatter Food Pantry on campus. Desired items include non-perishable food items with some suggestions including: peanut butter, oatmeal, canned fruits and vegetables, crackers. Personal hygiene items are also welcome. The collection will take place at the following home dates: Softball, April 6, 9, 10; Baseball, April 8, 9, 10, 12; Lacrosse, April 16. The Hatter Food Pantry is a confidential program designed to aid Stetson students in need of food or personal hygiene items. It is located in Griffith Hall on Stetson University's DeLand campus.
