DELAND, Fla. -- Stetson was unable to solve Liberty junior left-hander Joe Adametz III on Sunday as the Flames blanked the Hatters 8-0 in the series finale at Melching Field.
Sophomore Cole Stallings (5-4) got the ball to start for Stetson (20-23, 6-15) and took the loss. He allowed three runs on three hits and four walks in his two innings of work against a Liberty offense that scored in five of the nine frames.
Sophomore left-hander Anthony DeFabbia and junior right-hander Tanner Martin were the only hurlers who escaped unscathed, both pitching scoreless innings at the end of the game.
Liberty scored the only run it needed in the second when Logan Mathieu and Brady Gulakowski both doubled. The Flames added a pair of runs in the third, two more in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the seventh.
Sophomore Camden Traficante led the way offensively for the Hatters, going 2-for-4 in the game as Adametz (4-2) worked eight shutout innings, scattering six hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. David Erickson came on to close out the game in the ninth as the Flames improved to 28-14 overall on the year, 14-7 in ASUN play.
Both Mathieu and Gulakowski had two hits for Liberty as did Gray Betts and Stephen Hill.
The Hatters will look to bounce back on Tuesday afternoon when they host Florida State at Melching Field. That game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
