Logan Gilbert Named American League Pitcher of the Month

Former Stetson hurler Logan Gilbert got off to the best start in 2022 of any pitcher in the American League.

On Monday, he was recognized for Major League Baseball for that start, earning AL Pitcher of the Month honors for April.

The numbers during the month leave little double. He posted a 3-0 record and allowed just one earned run in his four starts. He worked a total of 22.1 innings, posting a 0.40 ERA, the lowest a pitcher in any month in Seattle Mariners history. Oh, and that doesn't count Sunday's start in Miami when he didn't allow a hit until the sixth inning, improving to 4-0 on the season.

Gilbert leads the AL overall with four wins this year as well as in ERA at 0.64 nd in ERA+ at 557. He joins Corey Kluber, who has been named AL Pitcher of the Month five times, and Jacob deGrom, who was been named NL Pitcher of the Month twice last year, as former Hatters to be recognized by MLB with a monthly award.

MLB first began naming a Pitcher and Player of the month during the 1975 season.

Gilbert's next start will likely come on Friday, back in Seattle, against Tampa Bay.
