The Stetson men's soccer team took to the pitch at the ATC early on Sunday morning, hosting Rollins College in the final exhibition match of the preseason.
Â
The early morning start seemed to suit the Hatters just fine as Stetson scored three first half goals in route to a 4-0 victory over the Tars.
Â
It took just 2:35 seconds for Stetson to get on the scoreboard when
Lewis Scattergood converted a pass from
Gio Rodriguez for a 1-0 lead.
Â
Luis Lara Delgado made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal at the 24:56 mark of the half, right out of a water break.
Gabriel Toro converted on a pass from
Tom DiLorenzo with less than three minutes left in the first stanza to give Stetson a 3-0 lead at the break.
Â
Stetson cleared its bench in the second half, giving a total of 26 players an opportunity on the pitch. The only goal came at the 74:22 mark of the game when Delgado punched home his second goal on a nice crossing pass from Toro.
Â
The Hatters' starting keeper,
Owen Jack, posted five saves in his 61 minutes between the pipes before turning the game over to
Maxwell Bennett, who finished off the shutout with two saves of his own. The Tars out-shot Stetson 19-12 in the game.
Â
Stetson will make its regular season debut on Thursday night on the home pitch when the Hatters host Wright State. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start, but will be the second game of a double-header with the women's team hosting FIU at 5 p.m.
Â
The visiting Raiders are coming off a 5-10-1 season in 2021 and a 3-2 exhibition loss to Bellarmine on Saturday.
