Stetson University Athletics is proud to announce the selection of six former Hatter student-athletes for induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame. The Class of 2022 includes baseball player Robert Crews '11, women's tennis player Julie Johnson Lepre '94, softball player Amanda Lindsey '10, indoor and beach volleyball player Kaley Melville '14, '17, football player Donald Payne '16, and women's basketball player
Jama Sharp '15.

The six-member class will be inducted the evening of Oct. 29, 2022, in an official ceremony at the Wayne Sanborn Center in DeLand. The honorees will also be recognized during Stetson's Homecoming football game vs. Drake that afternoon.

Robert Crews, 2008-12, Baseball

A Freshman All-American and two-time all-conference selection, Robert Crews had a terrific career both in the field and at the plate. In 228 career games, Crews batted .316 with 42 doubles, 23 home runs, and 137 RBI. He scored 180 runs and collected 282 hits, totals that still rank seventh and eighth, respectively, in the Stetson record book.

In 2008, Crews put together an outstanding rookie season, batting .361 with seven home runs and 37 RBI. He was named ASUN Freshman of the Year, second team all-conference and was a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American.

On Feb. 27, 2010, Crews went 4-for-4 at the plate and tied a Stetson single-game record by blasting three home runs in a showdown against the Georgia Bulldogs.

In 2011, Crews recorded a career-best 83-hit season en route to first-team all-conference honors. He helped the Hatters win 43 games, earn an NCAA Tournament at-large selection and advance to the finals of the Columbia (SC) Regional.

A four-year starter on the infield, including three seasons at second base, Crews racked up 584 career assists, the third-highest total in school history. He fielded at a .975 clip as a senior, committing just seven errors all season. Stetson's Defensive Player of the Year Award is now named after Crews and is presented annually at the team's Dick Westervelt First Pitch Banquet.

A native of Port Charlotte, Fla., Crews graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.

Julie Johnson Lepre, 1991-94, Women's Tennis
A two-time first team all-conference selection, Julie Johnson locked down the no. 1 singles position for the Hatters in the early 1990s. During her four-year career, Johnson won 57 singles matches including a school-record 38 victories at the No. 1 position.Â

In her first two seasons, Johnson played at No. 1 singles, earning nine wins as a freshman and 10 wins as a sophomore. She played at No. 2 singles as a junior and earned first team all-conference honors after winning 19 matches on the season. She returned to No. 1 singles her senior year, going 19-8 overall and once again earning first team all-conference honors. She also broke the school record with a 10-game win streak at No. 1 singles.

Johnson was a three-time team MVP and a two-time TAAC all-academic team selection. She was the first recipient of the Vicky Pate Endowed Scholarship for women's tennis.

A native of Naples, Fla., Johnson served in numerous leadership positions in her sorority, Delta Delta Delta. She graduated from Stetson in 1994 with a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree and later received an MBA from American University. Following her graduation, she worked at Lockheed Martin for more than a decade.Â

Johnson will be inducted into the Stetson Athletics Hall of Fame posthumously. Her family includes husband Mike Lepre and two sons, Matthew and William.
Amanda Lindsey, 2007-10, Softball

The all-time strikeouts leader in school history, Lindsey fanned a whopping 828 batters during her four-year career, surpassing the previous mark by more than 200 punchouts. The right-handed hurler compiled a career record of 70-46 with a miniscule 1.48 ERA. She earned two NFCA All-Region Honors and four ASUN Pitcher of the Week awards. Her resume included three no-hitters and one perfect game.

In addition to dominating in the circle, Lindsey was a consistent threat at the plate. In 200 career games, the slugger belted 23 home runs, registered 83 RBI and slugged at a .402 clip. In 2010, Lindsey hit an extra-inning walk-off grand slam to lift the Hatters to a 7-3 win over Kennesaw State.

After helping lead Stetson to its first NCAA Tournament appearance her freshman year, Lindsey went 24-14 as a sophomore and struck out a school single-season record 277 batters, a high-water mark that still stands today. She went on to win 25 games her senior year, adding 264 strikeouts to her record total, including 14 Ks in a game vs. Jacksonville. In addition to her career strikeouts record, Lindsey finished fourth in school history in wins (70), seventh in ERA (1.48), third in innings pitched (778.0), second in shutouts (28), and fifth in opponents' batting average (.194). Her 23 home runs ranked sixth in school history as well. She earned the department's Female Distinguished Senior Award in 2010.

A native of Byhalia, Miss., Lindsey graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology.

Kaley Melville, 2011-15, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball
A phenomenal athlete on the court and in the sand, Kaley Melville's highly-decorated career included ASUN Pair of the Year, ASUN Pair of the Tournament and two ASUN First Team All-Conference honors.

Melville was part of the inaugural Stetson beach volleyball team in 2012, and quickly helped build the Hatters into a national contender. In 2014, Melville sparked the Hatters to their first ASUN Conference title and the team's first appearance in the AVCA Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship.Â

Melville's finest year came in 2015, where she and partner Julie Bassett posted a 24-4 mark in dual matches en route to ASUN Pair of the Year honors. The pair then went 4-0 in the ASUN Championship to earn MVP honors and lift the Hatters to their second straight ASUN title. Â

All told, Melville participated in three AVCA pairs championships and two AVCA team championships. She was named to the ASUN All-Decade team in 2020.

Melville also led the Stetson indoor volleyball team in kills for four consecutive seasons. The outside hitter finished her career second in school history in kills (1,282) and third in digs (1,203), becoming the first Hatter to eclipse both 1,200 kills and 1,200 digs in a career. As a senior, she earned all-conference honors and helped Stetson qualify for the ASUN Championship for the first time in 18 seasons. She was the department's recipient of the Female Distinguished Senior Award.Â

A native of New Germany, Minn., Melville graduated from Stetson in 2014 with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Studies. She then earned a Master's Degree in Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling from Stetson in 2017.Â

Melville has earned multiple championship titles in the AVP Next, EVP, GAV, Sandbox, TVA Big Money, Excel, NVL Rize, and Dig the Beach Series professional tours. She placed second overall at the Atlantic City Big Shot East Coast Championship in 2016, and had final four appearances at the World Series of Beach Volleyball in 2017 and the Motherlode Championship in 2019. She was named the NVL's Most Improved Player in 2016 and has been ranked in the Top 50 nationally in the U26 rankings.

Donald Payne, 2012-16, Football
A three-time All-American, three-time Pioneer Football League Defensive Player of the Year, and four-time First Team All-PFL selection, Donald Payne was a defensive superstar in his four seasons with the Hatters. Â

Payne finished his college career as the third leading tackler in Division I (FCS/FBS) history with 538 tackles. The defensive back registered 65.5 career tackles for loss, 14 sacks, had seven forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries and nine interceptions. He scored five touchdowns in his career on defense or special teams.

One of his many career highlights came during an overtime game at Campbell in 2016, where Payne blocked a field goal attempt and, with the help of Jeb Boudreaux, scored the winning touchdown on an 87-yard return. The play was a SportsCenter Top 10 play for the day.

A native of Fayetteville, Ga., Payne earned multiple All-America honors throughout his career, including two selections to the prestigious Walter Camp All-America team. He also became the first three-time winner of any of the PFL's major awards, and he set a PFL record by being named league player of the week eight times in his career.

After earning his Bachelor's Degree in Finance in 2016, Payne signed as a free agent with the Baltimore Ravens. He went on to play three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2017-19), where, in 2017, he ranked third in the league in special teams tackles with 16. In 2019, he recorded a team-high 13 tackles, including one sack, in a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In 2022, Payne was drafted by the Houston Gamblers of the USFL. He led the league with 117 tackles in 10 games and was named to the inaugural All-USFL Team Defense.

Jama Sharp, 2011-15, Women's Basketball
A two-time ASUN First Team all-conference selection, Sharp helped lead the Hatters in an era of unprecedented success.
Â
Sharp played in all 133 career games without missing any, scoring a total of 1,261 career points. The sharp-shooting point guard finished her career third in school history three-point field goals made (167), fourth in steals (291), fifth in assists (441), and second in games played (133). She scored in double figures 66 times with seven double-double performances, and was one of two players in school history to record more than 1,000 points, have 400 assists and 250 steals.

A four-time postseason participant, Sharp helped lead the Hatters to 97 victories in four seasons, an average of more than 24 wins-per-season. The Hatters surpassed the school record for wins in a season three times in her career, culminating with a 27-win season in 2013-14.

Sharp was a member of the 2012-13 Hatter squad that defeated FGCU in the ASUN Championship game and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for just the third time in program history. She also helped lead Stetson to its first NCAA Postseason victory in 2014, a 70-64 win over Miami in the WNIT.

As a senior, Sharp scored a career-high 26 points in a season-opening win over Bethune-Cookman. She went a perfect 10-for-10 from the floor and 6-for-6 from the arc to set school single-game records for shooting percentage in both categories.

In addition to her all-conference awards, Sharp earned selections to the ASUN All-Academic team, the ASUN all-tournament team, the ASUN Winners for Life team, and in 2020, the ASUN All-Decade team. She was named ASUN Player of the Week twice, an ASUN Conference Scholar three times, and landed a spot on the ASUN Honor Roll all four seasons. In addition, Sharp was voted Stetson Athletics' Female Athlete of the Year in 2015.

After earning her Bachelor's Degree in Sport Business in 2015, Sharp served on the coaching staffs at Florida, Texas, and Virginia before returning to her alma mater in 2019. The Mooresville, Ind. native is in her fourth season as an assistant coach with the Hatters.
