DELAND, Fla. – Stetson men's soccer is set to open conference play in men's soccer Saturday night with Queens making the trip with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
Â
"Anytime you have a conference home opener you want to win," head coach
Emmett Rutkowski said. "I'm looking forward for the opportunity for us to get into a really good spot on the ASUN table. You need to win these games and dominate the play. Queens is a really successful Division II team that is well coached with good players. We don't know a lot about them because it is tough to know the intricacies of how they play and that is a positive for them."
Â
The trip will be a few firsts and to start the list, Queens and Stetson have never played each other. Each squad is looking for its first win of the 2022 campaign. This is the first year Queens will be competing as part of NCAA Division I, and the Royals have yet to record a win or draw.
Â
This also marks the end of three-game road swing for the Royals with their home opener to follow.
Â
The match will also be the first ASUN conference match of the 2022 season in all sports.
Â
Redshirt junior goalkeeper
Owen Jack is second in the ASUN with 11 saves. Jack also is fourth in save percentage and tied for fourth in goals-against average.
Â
Wednesday's goal scorer Conner Bates has notched his name alongside several other ASUN members tied for fourth in goals scored this season. The Canton, Mich., native shares the top spot for shooting percentage and shots-on-goal percentage, both at 100 percent, with a pair of players matching the total.
