Stetson University junior safety got his season off to a solid start on Saturday night, recording a pair of interceptions to go along with his six tackles in the Hatters' 24-14 victory over Concordia.
Â
For his efforts, Littlejohn was selected as the Pioneer Football League Defensive Player of the Week for the opening week of the season.
Â
Littlejohn was one of eight FCS defensive players with multiple interceptions during the opening weekend of play. It is the fourth time in his career that he has recorded a pair of interceptions in the game game.
Â
Littlejohn's first interception came in the opening moments of the second quarter and stopped a Concordia drive at the Stetson 2-yard line. On the next play, Stetson scored a 98-yard passing touchdown from sophomore
Brady Meitz to junior
Quinton Lane to take the lead. It was the longest pass play in program history.
Â
Littlejohn's second pick came in the fourth quarter. Following a Stetson turnover on downs, he picked off a pass on the first play from scrimmage to hand the ball back to the offense, helping the Hatters hang on to the lead and eventually pick up the win.
Â
He now stands fourth on Stetson's career interceptions list with eight in 24 career games.
Â
Littlejohn is the first Stetson player to be named the PFL Defensive Player of the Week since Colby Duncan earned the honor for his performance against Drake in October of 2018. He is the fifth Stetson player to win the award for a total of 11 times. Duncan, Davion Belk and Reggie Gantt all earned the honor once while three-time All-American Donald Payne won the award a league record seven times.
Â
Stetson's coaches also selected their team awards for the opening weekend of the season. Meitz was selected as the offensive player of the week while Littlejohn was the defensive honoree. Sophomore kicker
Cameron Gillis was selected as the team defensive player of the week.
Â
The Big Hit Award for the week went to sophomore linebacker
CJ Davis and sophomore receiver
Michael Carley earned the inaugural Blue Collar Award. Graduate
Fermon Reid was selected by his teammates to carry the Stetson Hammer into the game.
Â
The scout team awards went to sophomore receiver
Argjent Ismaili and sophomore defensive back
Andy Petit-Homme.
Â
The Hatters will look to take their second victory of the season this Saturday when the Wildcats of Louisiana Christian University visit Spec Martin Stadium. Stetson will honor Hometown Heroes in partnership with Mission 22 at the game, which is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
