Hatters Orchestrate Comeback to Continue Push for Playoffs

The Hatters completed a comeback to stun the Knights Sunday afternoon. After being down 2-0 at halftime, Stetson would claw away from the clutches of defeat to win 3-2 and continue their playoff push.

"We shook off the first half and executed the game plan for the second half," said Head Coach Chris Bergmann. "I told the girls to have a short memory and move forward because the game plan will work. It was great to see several people stepping up and finishing while we controlled the pace in the second half. The team showed resilience and to have three straight results is awesome."

The Hatters came out in the first half and struggled. The Knights took advantage of a turnover and found the back of the net past a sprawling Mallory Osborn. Bellarmine would pot another goal about ten minutes later giving them a 2-0 lead. Osborn and the Hatters defense would lock the Knights down the rest of the half.

Stetson completely flipped a switch going into the second half as they controlled most of the possession while outshooting the Knights 8-5. In the 59th minute Georgia Place would send a pass to Jillian Therrien along the left side. Therrien take a shot bending it to the goal near the back post cutting the deficit in half. Stetson would continue pushing and creating opportunities offensively. Place had a high opportunity shot that she ripped towards the top of the goal that got saved off the fingertips of the goalie. The Hatters would be awarded a corner and after the ball bounced around off a few defenders before Annika Seem would score her fifth goal of the season to tie the game in the 73rd minute. Stetson would continue pressing giving Kelly Gende an opportunity just outside that she rocketed into the back of the net giving the Hatters a 3-2 lead. The defense and Osborn would keep the Knights from any momentum and closing out the match.

Therrien and Gende each scored their first goal of the season as Seem's goal would be her fifth. Place picked up her first and second assists in this game which ties her with Gende for the team lead.

The Hatters now sit eighth in the conference standings with 11 points putting them just inside the playoffs. The team will now travel back to DeLand to take on Florida Gulf Coast to close out the regular season on Saturday, October 21. Kickoff is scheduled for 5pm at the Athletic Training Center.
