Hatters Unable to Capitalize on Hot Start Against FGCU

Stetson started off hot winning the first two sets before dropping the next three to Florida Gulf Coast Tuesday night, falling 2-3.
 
In the first set the Hatters would find themselves down 5-7 before exploding for a 9-1 scoring run to take the lead 14-8. Amaris Carter and Anabelle Standish would each contribute two kills during that run. The teams would trade points back and forth until Carter would earn the kill for set point with the score being 25-19.
 
The second start would start eh same way as the first with the Hatters finding themselves down 0-4 early. They would quickly respond tying the set at four a piece. The Eagles would retake the lead on a four-point scoring run. Stetson would continue chipping away at the Florida Gulf Coast defense before erupting on a six-point scoring run to take the lead 21-18, with Standish adding another two kills to her total. The Hatters would end the set on a three-point scoring streak, benefitting from three Eagles' errors. 
 
Set thee would be another close set will the Hatters taking an early 3-1 lead. Stetson would hold onto the lead until the Eagles would tie the set at 10. The teams would trade scoring runs before being tied once again at 16. Both teams would battle as the score would be tied twice later in the set at 22 and 23 before the Eagles would finish off the set 23-25.
 
The Hatters would stumble in the fourth set getting away from their game defensively which made it difficult for them to be in rhythm offensively. They would drop the set 15-25.
 
This means that the Hatters would now be going to the fifth set against a team undefeated in conference play. Stetson would find itself in the lead 6-4 with the help of four straight errors from the Eagles. They wouldn't be able to fend off Florida Gulf Coast however dropping the final set 10-15.
 
Through the five sets the Hatters had an astounding 15 total blocks as Groom lead the team with five. Standish would be the lone Hatter to have a double-double as she totaled 11 kills and 12 digs. Carter would lead the team with 13 kills. Nyah Molina would lead the team in assists with 35. She shared the team lead in digs for the match with Sugimoto as they both would tally 13. 
 
The Hatters are now 6-5 in conference play in the middle of a tightly packed standings. They will travel to Conway to take on Central Arkansas Sunday afternoon at 1pm.
