Hatters Suffer Heartbreaking 1-0 Loss to Lipscomb

DELAND, Fla. - The Hatters experienced a heartbreaking loss as the Lipscomb Bisons scored in the 90th minute to win 1-0 on Thursday night.

Stetson played a perfect 89 minutes against the Bisons, who stand atop the ASUN standings while also being the offensive leader in the conference. The Hatters were able to execute their defensive gameplan the entire game with big saves coming from goalkeeper Mallory Osborn. The one shot that Osborn wasn't able to save came on a shot from outside the box that was ricocheted off the foot of one of her defenders.

The Hatters fought tooth and nail every second of the match. Not only were they able to lock down the Bisons high powered offense, they were able to create several opportunities offensively. Georgia Place had a coast to coast run where she leaped over a defender while maintaining possession of the ball and fired a shot just wide left of the net.

Stetson's backline of Kylie Overstreet, Anna Brethauer, Evie Wysong, and Lea Alexander locked down Lipscomb's attacks by drawing them offsides eight times over the course of the match. Osborn continued the stellar defensive showing for the Hatters as she totaled six saves including many that were high opportunity shots.

The Hatters heart and fight was tested time and time again throughout the match. Each time, they answered the call even when the team suffered another injury. Stetson proved to everyone and themselves that they can compete with any team over their last four games of the season.

Stetson will conclude its homestand at the Athletic Training Center on Sunday October 8 at 1pm for Senior Day against Austin Peay.
