THE LEAD
Stetson men's soccer will finish off their homestand by playing host to the Embry-Riddle Eagles at the Athletic Training Center on Wedneday, Oct. 11. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM as the Hatters look to continue their undefeated streak at home, having not lost a game at the ATC since Oct. 15, 2022.

INSIDE THE SERIES
In a limited sample size, the Hatters hold the lead in the series with a 2-0 record over the Eagles. The first meeting between the two programs was on Sept. 14, 2021, when the Hatters, led by a hat-trick from forward Nelson Pereira, defeated the Eagles 6-1. The two met again last season

SCOUTING THE HATTERS (5-3-3, 2-1-1 ASUN)
The Stetson men's soccer team currently sits in third place in the ASUN standings with a 2-1-1 conference record, accumulating 7 points. With an overall season record of 5-3-3, the Hatters seek to maintain their undefeated home record of 4-0-2, making them the last remaining conference team to avoid a home loss.

Luis Lara, who delivered an outstanding performance on Saturday, contributed to their victory with a 5-point display. Lara scored two goals and provided an assist, marking his second two-goal game of the season and the second in the team's last four games. With a total of 6 goals and two assists, Lara is the team's leading scorer with 14 points, ranking fourth in the conference. Andres Mata, who also found the back of the net in the recent win, is another key contributor with five goals, one assist, and 11 points.

The Hatters' offensive depth is evident as ten different players have scored goals this season, including Xavi Csato and Gabriel Toro, each with a pair of goals. Additionally, ten players have recorded assists, with Afonso Conde leading the pack with 4 assists, followed closely by Csato and Charles Ahl with three each.

Stetson is second in the conference in both goals scored and assists, tallying 22 goals and 19 assists for a total of 63 points. They lead the league in shots taken, with 177 attempts, and 66 of those on target, thanks in part to Lara's 31 total shots. The team averages 2 goals per game and has struck first in six out of their 11 games.

On the defensive side, the Hatters have allowed 16 goals against, which is tied for the fourth fewest in the ASUN. They've recorded four shutouts this season, showcasing their ability to secure their own end of the field. Defenders Alvaro Gabancho and freshman Ross Appolon played pivotal roles in maintaining a strong defense last game, each logging a full 90 minutes of action. Goalkeeper Nicolo Radaelli made his 11th start for Stetson and has faced 110 shots and made 33 saves, demonstrating his reliability in goal.

Most recently, Lara and Appolon were named ASUN Players of the Week for their collective play in the win over Queens.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES (2-4-2, 0-4-1 SSC)
The Embry-Riddle Eagles men's soccer team has had a mixed season so far, currently holding a 2-4-2 record and occupying the 11th spot in the Sunshine State Conference with a 0-4-1 conference record. While they began the season with victories against Spring Hill and Georgia Southwestern State, their recent form has seen them struggle, going 0-3-1 in their last four matches, including a goalless draw against Tampa in their most recent outing.

The Eagles faced tough competition with back-to-back losses to ranked teams, #15 Rollins and #14 Florida Tech, highlighting the challenges they've encountered this season. Their home record stands at 1-1-1, but they have faced difficulties on the road with a 1-3-1 record.

Offensively, the team has scored a total of 10 goals but has conceded 19 goals against. They've taken 60 shots and earned 19 corner kicks throughout the season.

Freshman forward Jacob Callahan has been a standout performer, leading the team with 4 goals despite coming off the bench. Additionally, six other Eagles have contributed with goals, while six players have recorded assists. Among them, junior midfielder Jano Baxmann leads the team with 2 assists, showcasing his playmaking abilities.

In the goalkeeping department, the Eagles have relied on two keepers this season. Ferriol Caballe i Vila has started six games, facing 73 shots and making 22 saves. Salvatore della Valle has taken over the starting role recently, facing 32 shots, making 8 saves, and allowing three goals over three games.

NEXT UP
After honoring their senior class, Stetson will gear up for a return to conference as they hit the road to Conway, Arkansas, to face the University of Central Arkansas Bears on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 8:00 PM.
