Hatters Fall to the Ospreys in Regular Season Finale

Jacksonville, Fla. –  The Hatters fell to the Ospreys 0-3 Saturday night at UNF Arena to close out the regular season. 
 
The first set was back and forth early before the Hatters would go on a five-point scoring run to take a 9-6 lead. After dropping a point and losing a challenge Sophia Groom would answer back with a kill. Stetson would increase their lead to six making the score 16-10. The Hatters would hold the lead until the score would be tied at 23. The set would eventually go to the Ospreys 23-25.
 
Set two was similar to the first set with each team trading points early. Every time the Ospreys would try to pull away the Hatters would reel them back in. Down 7-9 the Hatters would rattle off four straight points to take an 11-9 lead. The teams would then go back and forth again until the Hatters found themselves down 20-22. Coming out of a timeout Haruka Sugimoto would make a big time dig leading to a kill from Anabelle Standish cutting the lead in half before Groom would tie the game at 22. The Hatters wouldn't be able to come away with the set falling 23-25. 
 
The Hatters would find themselves down 1-3 early in the third before clawing back to tie the set at four. A kill from Carter would give the Hatters a 6-5 lead but that was short lived. Stetson wouldn't be able to create much offense in the third set dropping it 18-25. 
 
Leilani Vitale led the Hatters in kills with 11 followed by Carter with 10. Molina would lead the match in assists with 36 and Sugimoto led the match with 22 digs. 
 
Stetson will enter the ASUN Volleyball Championship as the seventh seed matched up against Lipscomb in the first round. The Championship will be played at the host site Florida Gulf Coast with the Hatters first round match set to start at 1pm.
