Jacksonville, FLA - The Stetson men's and women's rowing teams headed up to Jacksonville on Saturday for a day of racing at the Head of the Arlington regatta, hosted by Jacksonville University.
Saturday was the inaugural Head of the Arlington and it featured all Florida teams including the Hatters, Jacksonville, Florida Tech, Nova Southeastern and Embry Riddle.
The Stetson men's Varsity 8+ claimed victory in the Head of the Arlington with a boat of
Bennett Rossell (coxswain),
Sacha Roiena,
Matthew Franks,
Lukasz Bajorek,
Endrik Brettman,
Lincoln Hendricks,
Gary Rought,
William Hubbard, and
Dylan Anderson. The Hatters finished with a time of 16:36.6 almost a full seven seconds faster than the second place Panthers and almost thirty seconds faster than the third place Dolphins out of Jacksonville.
In the women's varsity 8+, Stetson would race two boats. The first boat was
Sarah Sessions (coxswain),
Maia Starrwalker,
Jocalyn Ortega,
Hannah Hardey,
Ella Glover,
Bethany Klingeman,
Cailin Mitchell,
Noelle Zinn and
Savannah Clarke. In the second boat for the Hatters was Tory Runckel (coxswain),
Emily Haynes,
Asia Erickson,
Gillian Dodge,
Maria Lopez Martin, Rhianna Petersen,
Julia Hickey,
Riley Olivero and
Cheyenne Justice.
The boat led by Sessions came across the line first for Stetson for fourth place with a time of 20:32.1 and shortly after in fifth place the boat led by Runckel finished with a time of 20:55.8. Both boats would beat of the Panthers from FIT who finished in sixth, as Jacksonvilles boats got a one two finish.
The Stetson women also raced in the Varsity 4+. The team in the 4+ was
Cassandra Bradley (coxswain),
Katrina Early,
Chaylee Martin,
Lauren Sweat, and
Eileen Seif. The Hatters finished in 4th place with a time of 24:17.4 just behind Jacksonvilles' pair of boats.
The Head of the Arlington also featured several sprint races, splitting the teams up into a top 3 boats and bottom 3 boats. In the men's Top 3 8+ Stetson finished in second behind Jacksonville. In the women's bottom 3 8+ Stetson would get a one two finish with the 1 varsity and 2 varsity beating out the boat from FIT.
The Head of the Arlington concludes the fall season for both the men's and women's rowing teams. After a successful fall season both teams are looking forward to getting back on the water in the spring season.
