THE LEAD
The Hatters will look to right the ship after starting the season with three tough losses as they host the Iona Gaels for their 2023-24 home opener at the Edmunds Center. It will be a purple out for Alzheimer's Awareness on Saturday, Nov. 18 as tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Stetson and Iona have never met in their storied histories as this Saturday's matchup will mark their first ever meeting. The Hatters are no strangers to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, however, as they enter with an even 5-5 record against current MAAC foes.

SCOUTING THE HATTERS (0-3, 0-0 ASUN)
The Stetson women's basketball team looks to break a three-game skid that saw stints at Tulane, USF and High Point. Despite a 54-59 loss to the High Point Panthers in their last outing, the Hatters set a program record with an astonishing 64 rebounds,36 of which were offensive rebounds.

Leading the charge last game was redshirt-senior Jamiya Turner, who scored a season-high 19 points. Turner hit seven shots from the field and went 5 for 7 from the line while grabbing nine rebounds in the process.

Jaelyn Talley came one point shy of a double-double as she finished the night with nine points and 14 rebounds. Although Skylar Treadwell only recorded four points, she was a presence in the paint, grabbing 21 rebounds, most in a game by a Hatter since 2005 and tied for second most in a game by a Hatter all-time.

The Hatters nearly erased a deficit that reached 19 points as they cut it to within three points but ultimately fell short. As a team, they shot 18 of 83 from the floor and 2 of 21 from beyond the arc. The Hatters were accurate from the line, however, hitting 16 of 20 free throws.

On defense, Stetson recorded four blocks and 11 steals while forcing the Panthers into 21 turnovers, turning that into 11 points on the other end. Freshman Diawna Carter-Hartley was one of four Hatters with a block while Keshi Promise and J. Turner both recorded three steals.

In addition to outrebounding the Panthers, 64-39, Stetson dominated the paint, outsourcing High Point, 32-20. Their 36 offensive rebounds also allowed for 25 second chance points.

Through the first three games, J. Turner has led the Hatters in scoring with 13.0 points per game on 37.8 percent shooting, her points per game ranking 11th in the conference. Khamya McNeal has averaged 9.3 in her three appearances as she is one of three Hatters with three three-pointers this season. The other two are Jordan Peete and Tyra Myers, the latter hitting all three against USF.

Talley and Treadwell have attacked the glass all season, recording 29 and 28 rebounds, respectively. The former of the two leads the team with 20 offensive rebounds while she is currently tied for second in all of NCAA in offensive rebounds per game. The duo also ranks 3rd and 4th most in the ASUN conference heading into this weekend.

Stetson has allowed the 4th lowest amount of points to an opponent, 64.7 points per game, while holding opponents to 40.9 percent shooting from the field, 5th lowest.

SCOUTING THE GAELS (1-2, 0-0 MAAC)
The Iona Gaels enter the season following a phenomenal 2022-23 season in which they went 26-7, won the MAAC Championship and made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament as a #14 seed.

Entering the season projected 7th in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 59 points, the Gaels are looking to run it back.

They visit DeLand with a 1-2 record on the year, with their lone win coming against LIU and losses to Seton Hall and Bethune-Cookman.

Their most recent outing was a 72-74 loss to the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman in overtime. Graduate forward Sierra DeAngelo led the Gael's effort with 30 points and 13 rebounds on 12 of 22 shooting.

Starters Ella Fajardo and Natalia Otkhmezuri both reached double-digit scoring as they finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively. The former of the two also led the Gaels in assists during the loss.

Off the bench, Noa Givens was the only one to record points as she hit two three-pointers on her way to 11 points.

As a team, the Gaels made 27 of their 59 attempted shots from the field and went seven of 23 from beyond the arc. Both the Gaels and Wildcats scored 36 points in the paint but Iona was outrebounded 38 to 49 in the contest. They scored eight second chance points to Bethune-Cookman's 26 and forced the Wildcats into six turnovers, which they converted into five points.

On the season, Iona is averaging 61.3 points per game with a scoring margin of -8.0. They've gone 69 of 155 from the field (44.5%), 24 of 61 from beyond the arc (39.3%) and 22 of 30 at the line. They've been outrebounded so far, 92 to 119 with an average of 30.7 per game. They share the ball well, tallying 47 total assists in their first three games.

On defense, they've held opponents to 79 of 194 shooting (40.7%) and 9 of 39 from deep (23.1%). The Gaels have registered 12 steals and seven blocks thus far while forcing 36 turnovers, scoring an average of 12 points off of turnovers.
