Stetson Men's Tennis Shines in Varner Memorial Florida Cup

WINTER PARK, Fla. - Over the weekend of October 27 to 29, the Stetson Hatters competed in the Varner Memorial Florida Cup, held at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex in Rollins College. Stetson engaged in a Hidden Dual Format, focusing on individual matches without team scoring. In doubles action against SCAD Savannah, Stetson faced mixed results, with Marc Saura and Juan Jose Rodriguez Garceran narrowly losing to Lopez Cruz/Ozernoy from SCAD 6-3, while Eder Blanco and Ervin Haris Eminefendic secured a win against Tryakshin/Medrano, triumphing with a score of 6-3. Tim Gennes and Sami Ozzor also contributed to their team's success by defeating Jaupart/Wieber with a score of 6-4.

In the singles matches against SCAD Savannah, Stetson's players continued to showcase their skill and resilience. Blanco battled fiercely, ultimately emerging victorious over Ozernoy of SCAD with a thrilling score of 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. Eminefendic narrowly missed victory against Tryakshin in a hard-fought match, losing 7-6(3), 1-6, 11-9. Gennes secured a win over Jaupart with a score of 6-1, 6-7(2), 10-8, while Baldi, Saura, and Ozzor triumphed convincingly in their respective matches against their SCAD opponents.

On Saturday, Stetson faced off against Army, securing wins in both doubles and singles matches. Notably, Blanco, Rodriguez, Gennes, Baldi, Saura, and Ozzor were all victorious in their singles matches. The team's dominance continued in doubles, with Saura/Rodriguez, Blanco/Eminefendic, and Gennes/Ozzor securing victories against their Army counterparts.

The weekend concluded with a series of matches against Rollins on Sunday. While the Stetson team put up a strong fight, they experienced mixed outcomes. Blanco fell in a close contest to Comu of Rollins, while Rodriguez Garceran, Gennes, Saura and Ozzor all picked up wins in their respective matches.

Head Coach Christophe Noblet commended the team's efforts, stating, "This was a solid weekend for the Hatters. We put our focus on competing the right way throughout the weekend, and the players responded well. We have a very deep squad this year, and it showed this weekend. We also looked pretty good physically, which is important if you want to sustain success throughout an entire season."

Looking ahead, the Hatters will conclude their fall season by competing in the ITF Futures in Boca Raton from Monday, November 13, to Wednesday, November 15, aiming to cap off their season on a high note.
