Hatters Extend Winning Streak in Victory Over Coastal Georgia

The Hatters keep it rolling as Jalen Blackmon's 32 points highlighted the 94-49 victory over College of Coastal Georgia.

Stetson saw the first bucket of the game on a three from Blackmon. He would score seven of the Hatters first nine points as the buzzer for the media timeout sounded through the Edmunds Center with the score tied at nine. Coming out of the media timeout, Treyton Thompson would bury a three before a steal by Stephan Swenson led to a three from Tristan Gross. Swenson tallies the Hatters next five points. Stetson's lead was once again short lived as the Mariners would tie it back up at 20. After being tied at 25, the Hatters would go on a 15-4 run to close out the half with eight of those points coming from the hot hand of Blackmon.

In the second half four different Hatters scored the team's first four basket with the first play of the half being an alley-oop from Swenson to Thompson. Stetson would continue building their lead with the help of Blackmon as he would rattle off 11 straight points to push the lead to 24. Blackmon's 11 straight points was broken up by an alley-oop from Swenson to Aubin Gateretse shaking the rim. With under ten minutes remaining in the second half, Head Coach Donnie Jones started to roll out his bench with his team up 71-42. The Hatters finished the second half on a 19-4 run that included big buckets from members of the bench. Isaac Jones nailed a three from the corner with just over four minutes left and almost two minutes later Finley Sheridan would make an outlet pass to Huxtable slamming it down as the bench went crazy. The game ended with the Hatters on top 94-49.

Blackmon led the team with 32 points while shooting 11-20 from the field and 6-12 from beyond the arc. Gateretse scored the next highest with 13 while also grabbing 17 rebounds for his third double double of the season.  Swenson was the third Hatter in double digit scoring 12 points while also adding six assists.

As a team Stetson shot 47.9% from the field and 40.6% from three-point land. This was the second game in a row that the Hatters are scored 13 threes. A key stat was the low turnovers as they had only four, giving them a 5:1 assist to turnover ratio. On defense, Stetson forced 14 turnovers turning it into 24 points while also recording 17 second chance points.

Stetson will head back on the road to take on Chicago State in the first game of a home and home on Sunday, Dec. 3. That time is set to tip-off at 2pm in the Emil and Patricia A. Jones Convocation Center.
