The Hatters fell to Chicago State Sunday afternoon, 54-77.
The first half started well for the Hatters as
Aubin Gateretse scored six of the first nine points for the team. At the first media timeout, Stetson had a slim 9-7 lead over Chicago State. Coming out of the timeout,
Tristan Gross hit a pull-up jumper to put the Hatters up by four but the Cougars would take the lead.
Jalen Blackmon answered the call hitting a three to tie the game at 16. However, the Hatters started to have shooting troubles as they would find themselves down 25-31 at the half.
Starting the second half
Stephan Swenson would orchestrate the offense scoring a layup and finding Gateretse for a dunk to cut the deficit to two. Stetson wouldn't be able to get much else going in the half as Chicago State pulled away winning the contest by over 20.
Blackmon finished the game with a team lead 17 points scoring 12 of them in the second half, and Swenson pulled in a team high seven rebounds. Gateretse finished the game 6-6 from the field boosting his shooting percentage which is already near the top in the NCAA.
As a team the Hatters really struggled shooting the ball from three finishing 3-25 and their best shooter Blackmon went only 2-10. Despite the three point shooting being an outlier to the team norm, they still shot over 40% from the field. The team also committed 14 turnovers providing the Cougars with 10 points. Stetson also struggled on the defensive end in the paint as they allowed 44 points in the paint while also giving up 15 offensive rebounds and 15 second chance points.
The Hatters will look to bounce back as they travel to North Carolina to take on Charlotte. That game will tip-off at 7pm on Tuesday, December 5.
