CHARLOTTE, NC --Jalen Blackmon collected 28 points, but the Stetson men's basketball team fell to the Charlotte 49ers 62-85 on the road Tuesday night.
Blackmon started the game scoring the Hatters first seven points taking an early 7-3 lead. Aubin Gateretse would commit two fouls in a short span of time giving Charlotte a size advantage early. Blackmon would break the 49ers 14-0 run by hitting two free throws before Cyncier Harrison scored six straight points to try and bring the Hatters back. Stephan Swenson scored seven straight points as the Hatters ended the half on a 9-0 trailing 28-45.
Blackmon once again came out of the gates hot putting up another six straight points before the Hatters found themselves in a seven minute scoring draught. He would end the drought with a jumper before Gateretse scored on an inbound pass from Swenson. The Hatters weren't able to muster much momentum as both teams went deep into their bench.
Blackmon's 28 points was the most in the game as he went 8-15 from the field including 3-6 from beyond the arc. Treyton Thompson led the team in rebounds with four and Swenson had the team lead in assists with five.
As a team the Hatters shot 39.2% from the field and 31.6% from three point range. Stetson only missed one free throw going 16-17 from the charity stripe.
Johnson University (Fla.) comes to DeLand to take on Stetson on Sunday, Dec. 10. Tip off for that game will be at 2pm.
