THE LEAD
The Hatters will face arguably their toughest test this season as they head to Bloomington, Indiana to face off with the #17 Hoosiers as the Hatters look to play spoiler for their first win on the road this season. Tip-off for Sunday's game is scheduled for 2:00 PM at the Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
INSIDE THE SERIES
It's been over two decades since these two programs first met as the Hoosiers won the lone match-up back on Nov. 26, 1999 in a 91-43 game.
SCOUTING THE HATTERS (2-6, 0-0 ASUN)
Stetson approaches the weekend showdown with an overall record of 2-6, having picked up their second win of the season with a dominant 83-37 home win over Webber International on Thursday night. They look to win their first game away from the friendly confines of home during their two game trip as they've gone 0-4 on the road and 0-2 at a neutral site so far.
The win marked the Hatters' most points scored in a game this year and most in a game since putting up 92 on Johnson (Fla.) on Nov. 15, 2022. Six Hatters reached double-figures in scoring including freshmen
Sophia Fontaine and
Anna Kunzwiler, the latter leading the team with 14 points off the bench.
So far this season, the offensive charge for Stetson has been led by
Jamiya Turner, who maintains a team-leading average of 97 points, 12.1 per game. Turner showcases a 44 percent shooting accuracy from the field (37 of 84) and a 79.3 percent from the free-throw line, sixth best in the ASUN.
Jordan Peete, with seven starts this season, averages an even 10 points per game, making a team-high 9 of 26 shots from beyond the arc.
Kunzwiler was the star of the show on Thursday as the freshman went five of 10 from the floor in her debut, including four of nine from beyond the arc.
Khamya McNeal and
Promise Keshi have been a key piece in the rotation as they average 8.4 and 5.1 points, the latter tying a season-high 10 points in her last outing.
Keshi leads the team in steals, contributing 15 steals, tied for second most in the conference.
Jaelyn Talley has excelled on the glass, leading the Hatters with 53 total rebounds, 6.6 per game. Her 30 offensive rebounds rank second most in the ASUN and she ranks third most in total boards.
Skylar Treadwell has pulled in 44 rebounds on the season after grabbing 21 against High Point earlier this season.
As a team, Stetson averages 59 points per game, as opposed to a conference second fewest average points allowed (60.4), on 179-492 shooting from the field (36.4%) and 31-144 from three-point range. They exhibit a conference third-best free-throw percentage of 72.2 percent (83-115) and boast an ASUN second-highest 299 total rebounds, 37.4 rebounds per game. Stetson has forced opponents into 127 turnovers and capitalized on them with 15.8 points off turnovers.
SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS (6-1, 0-0 Big Ten)
Indiana enters the game with a current record of 6-1, sitting third in the Big Ten standings, most recently experiencing a 67-59 road win over Maine on Thursday to extend their win streak to five games.
In the 2023-24 Preseason Coaches' Poll, the coaches voted Indiana third in the poll, behind Ohio State. The order was reversed in the media poll, with Indiana at No. 2, followed by Ohio State.
Looking to build off of a 28-4 finish last season, the Hoosiers average 79.9 points per game and have outscored their opponents by an average of 16.9 points. Their current season has seen notable wins over #19/21 Tennessee and Stetson's conference rival, Lipscomb.
As a team, they have a shooting percentage of 49% from the field (220 of 449) and 35.5% from beyond the arc (54 of 152). Rebounding at an average of 37.9 per game and distributing 20.6 assists, Indiana showcases exceptional team play.
On the defensive end, they allow opponents to shoot 39.1% from the field (168 of 430) and 29.5% from three-point range (43 of 146), fourth and sixth most in the Big Ten Conference. The defense has also forced 82 turnovers, scoring 13.9 points off them, while tallying 38 steals and 25 blocks.
Graduate forward Mackenzie Holmes, A Preseason All-Big Ten Team selection, leads the team with a conference second-most 18.4 points per game on 61.5 percent shooting. Holmes also leads the Hoosiers with 48 total rebounds, 6.9 per game, while grabbing 14 offensive boards.
