Turner Leads Team in Tough Road Loss to #17 Indiana

Hatters Still Seek First Win Away From Home

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - In a challenging matchup on the road, the Stetson Hatters faced the formidable #17 Indiana Hoosiers in Bloomington on Sunday afternoon, marking their seventh game away from home this season. Despite the setback, the Hatters entered the contest with momentum, having secured a commanding victory against Webber International at home just a few nights prior. Jamiya Turner paced the team with 11 points, her sixth game with double-figures, and six rebounds.

The Hatters made an early impact, with Jaelyn Talley converting the first basket after an offensive rebound by Skylar Treadwell. Treadwell's subsequent offensive board set the stage for Khamya McNeal's three-pointer, propelling Stetson to a brief 5-2 lead—their largest advantage of the game.

However, the Hoosiers responded with authority, embarking on an 11-2 run, momentarily disrupted by Quentarra Mitchell's jumper in the paint. Despite a jumper from Turner narrowing the gap to 13-9, Indiana closed out the first quarter with an 11-0 run, featuring three three-pointers.

Indiana initiated a 5-2 run, highlighted by a jumper in the paint from Promise Keshi. However, Stetson swiftly responded as Jordan Peete drained a three-pointer, assisted by the former, extinguishing Indiana's brief surge.

To cap off the first half, both teams traded a set of baskets. Turner was the sole contributor for Stetson, delivering both baskets, including a last-second shot that left them trailing 41-20 heading into halftime.

Entering the second half, the Hatters displayed resilience, with Peete and Turner sinking jumpers to trim the deficit to 17 points. However, they faced a scoring drought until Turner's successful free throws, ending a 13-0 run by the Hoosiers. McNeal's three-pointer, assisted by Turner, provided a glimmer of hope as Indiana secured a 29-point lead heading into the final quarter.

The game concluded with a 14-5 quarter, during which Stetson's points mainly came from the free-throw line, and a basket from Keshi. The Hatters, now holding a 2-7 record for the year, encountered shooting challenges, going 12-of-62 from the field and 3-of-24 from beyond the arc.

Stetson will have nearly a week before hitting the road again as they will head to Denver to play the Pioneers at Hamilton Gymnasium on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 3:00 PM ET.
