Stetson battled hard to clinch victory in respect for their seniors but fell short to the Lipscomb Bison in overtime. Despite the overtime loss, the Hatters clinched the 4 seed of the ASUN Conference Playoffs. Stetson pushed hard late in the second half in an effort to steal the game from the Bisons. Down seven, the Hatters were powered by Alec Oglesby who provided five points along with baskets from Luke Brown and Sam Peek. Just before the end of regulation, the Lipscomb head coach called a timeout between Peek's free throws. This threw Peek off his rhythm at the line as the second free throw clanked off the iron before regulation ended 2.1 seconds later with the teams tied at 81.
In overtime, Lipscomb benefited from fouls committed by Stetson as Oglesby and Jalen Blackmon tried to bring the Hatters back once again. Stetson sadly ran out of time, and the Bisons won the game by a score of 98-91.
Stetson was once again missing point guard Stephan Swenson after a hard fall against FGCU.
Blackmon led the Hatters in scoring with 20 points shooting 7-17. Oglesby had a great shooting night going 3-4 from behind the arc and 5-8 overall totaling 16 points.
Both games that Stetson and Lipscomb have played this season have ended in overtime. There is a high probability this happens a third time as the Hatters will face off with the Bison again on Tuesday, February 28th in the ASUN Quarterfinals at the Edmunds Center with a tip-off of 7:00PM.
