Fort Myers, Fla – Stetson (13-5, 3-0) took on ASUN rival No. 70 FGCU (10-5, 1-1) and earned the victory 5-2.
Stetson dropped the doubles point to FGCU as Pilar Harper and
Cheri Darley lost 2-6.
Alanna DiFrancesco and
Magdalena Hedrzak also fell on court one 2-6. FGCU would lead 1-0 after doubles.
In singles play,
Cheri Darley scored the first point for the Hatters as she won 6-2,6-1 on court three.
Anais Gabriel would score the second point for Stetson as she won 6-2,6-4 on court two. Pilar Harper would make it three straight points as she won 6-2,6-3 on court six to make the overall score 3-1 Stetson.
Magdalena Hedrzak would pick up another win for the Hatters going 7-5,4-3 as FGCU retired in the match to clinch the victory.
Alanna DiFrancesco would fall on court one 6-0,0-6,7-6.
Noa Cohen would get another point for the Hatters as she won 2-6,6-2,7-6. The final score Hatters 5 Eagles 2.
"What a gutsy win tonight. The team showed great character after doubles. They responded well and fought hard on every court," said Stetson head coach
Travis Sandlant.
The Hatters will travel to Kennesaw State on Sunday March 26
th to face the Owls at 11:00 a.m.
