Fort Myers – Fla. In the First Round of the ASUN Championship the #9 seeded Stetson Hatters beat the #10 seeded Jacksonville Dolphins in Fort Myers today at Alico Arena to advance to the ASUN Quarterfinals.
Jaelyn Talley, started strong for the Hatters scoring the teams first 6 points of the game. Jacksonville ultimately led 13-10 after the first quarter of play.
Maddie Novak made three 3 pointers in the second quarter as the Hatters scored 18 to take a 28-22 lead over the Dolphins at halftime.
Jacksonville came out of the half strong, but Stetson was able to maintain the lead 43-39, as they were paced again by Talley who scored a quarter high 5 points for the Hatters.
In the final quarter the Hatters outscored the Dolphins 17-14 to close out the game 60-53. Four Hatters scored in double figures with Talley leading the way with 15 points.
Khamya McNeal scored 12, while
Jamiya Turner and
Maddie Novak each scored 10.
"Anytime you can win a game in March it is a good feeling," Stetson head coach
Lynn Bria said. "Jaelyn had a great game for us and we received good contributions from our bench to get the win."
Stetson advances to the quarterfinals of the ASUN Championship where they will face the #1 seeded FGCU Eagles on Sunday at 5:00PM in Fort Myers.
