Fort Myers, Fla. - Stetson competed in the first round of the ASUN Men's Tennis Conference Tournament this morning against Lipscomb gaining the victory 4-1.
The Hatters started off strong by winning the doubles point.
Lucas Olivier, and
Marc Saura dominated doubles with a 6-3 win over the Bisons. On court three the Hatters would get the final point needed to win doubles as Lipscomb withdrew.
Taking a look at singles, courts five and six were decided by walkover giving Stetson two more points overall pushing the Hatters to a 3-0 lead. The Hatters fell to the Bisons on court 1, as
Lucas Olivier lost 4-6, 2-6, however it didn't take long for them to clinch the match with
Ervin Haris Eminefendic, on court 2. Eminefendic won 7-5, 6-2. Ultimately giving the Hatters a final score of 4-1 punching their ticket to the ASUN Championship Quarterfinals.
"Happy to be advancing this time of the year, as we stay alive and look forward to facing FGCU, who is number one and a very good team. The team is eager for the challenge as we have had some very close battles with them in the past. It will take everything we have to advance," said head Stetson coach
Christophe Noblet.
The Hatters will face the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles tomorrow, in the quarterfinals matchup at 5:00 p.m.
