Hatters Drop a Pair to FGCU

Morgan, Baxter Go Deep for Stetson

DeLand, Fla. -- FGCU took both ends of an ASUN doubleheader from Stetson, winning by scores of 4-2 and 4-3 Saturday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.

The Eagles (28-20, 10-7 ASUN) got a 2-run home run from Meagan Ricks in the the opener and another 2-run homer by Neely Peterson in Game 2 to take the first two games of the series.

The Hatters (23-25, 7-10 ASUN), meanwhile, also hit a pair of home runs on the day.  Evette Morgan hit her fourth of the year in the Game 1, and Marissa Baxter hit her fifth of the season in Game 2.  Baxter's shot came in the bottom of the seventh and cut a 4-1 deficit down to 4-3, but the Eagles held on for the win.

Brianna Clary had a 5-hit day at the plate and scored a run for the Hatters.  Gia Napoli and Gianna Niemeier tallied two hits apiece in Game 2. Hannah Marien and Lauren Hobbs each went the distance in the circle.

The teams will be back on the field Sunday afternoon for the series finale.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN+.
