Hatters Win in Extras Again

Stetson Takes Game 2 from JU, 5-1

Jacksonville, Fla. -- Gianna Niemeier's sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth snapped a 1-1 tie and Kami Eppley's 3-run triple broke the game open as Stetson defeated Jacksonville 5-1 Sunday afternoon in Game 2 of Sunday's tripleheader at the Pruitt Softball Complex.

The victory clinched the series for the Hatters (26-25) and improved Stetson to 10-10 in ASUN play with just four regular season games remaining.  The Dolphins fell to 23-24, 9-11.

Stetson tied a season-high with 13 hits in the game.  Brianna Clary went 4-for-5 with two runs scored.  It was second career 4-hit game and the first for the Hatters this season.  Eppley went 2-for-3 with three RBI.  Her triple was Stetson's first extra base hit with the bases loaded this season.  Niemeier collected a pair of hits and drove in two.  The Hatters left 11 runners on base, but got two timely swings in the ninth from Niemeier and Eppley.

Hannah Marien (9-10) went the distance in the circle, allowing one run and four hits while striking out four.  Two of those punchouts came in the bottom of the fifth fifth following a lead-off double by the Dolphins.

The victory gave Stetson back-to-back extra inning wins for the first time since 2010.  Stetson is now 14-2 when scoring four or more runs in a game.

The teams will play one more time Sunday afternoon.
