DELAND, FLA. - Prior to last Saturday's game against Webber International, the Stetson Football team held an emotional memorial ceremony to honor the life of Trenton Stewart, a standout freshman player who tragically passed away in a car accident last spring.

Stewart's family, including his parents Mandi and Robert, his sisters Megan and Ally, and his grandparents, joined the team on the field to remember Trenton. As a defensive lineman last season, Trenton exhibited a tremendous work ethic and drive that had a profound impact on his teammates. Trenton Stewart's unwavering motto, "Quitting Is Not An Option," stands as a testament to his indomitable attitude and enduring legacy.
 
A cybersecurity major who earned 2022 Pioneer Football League All-Academic Team honors, Trenton embodied what it means to be a Stetson Hatter through his passion, determination and team-first mentality. Originally from St. Johns, Florida and a graduate of Creekside High School, Trenton was a beloved member of the community.

The Stewart family was presented with Trenton's framed jersey in a poignant moment. Trenton's parents also established The Trenton Stewart Foundation to support student-athletes by granting scholarships to those who exhibit Trenton's drive and character.

The foundation already awarded over $4,000 this year to football players for camps, equipment and academics. In a touching gesture, the family presented sophomore wide receiver Aanjay Feliciano with a $7,500 scholarship as the first recipient of the Trenton Stewart Drive & Perseverance award.

Saturday's touching memorial ceremony provided an opportunity for Trenton's family, friends, coaches and teammates to celebrate his life and legacy. Though his time at Stetson was cut short, Trenton made a tremendous impact through his passion, dedication and selfless spirit. His memory will continue to inspire the Stetson community through the lives he touched and the foundation established in his honor.
