DELAND, FLA.- The Hatters were able to come from behind late in the second half Sunday afternoon to draw against Green Bay 1-1.
Throughout the entire game the Hatters were creating runs and opportunities in the offensive end.
Hanna Arvay and
Zoie Weinberger were able to put two great opportunities on net in the first half. Green Bay's goalkeeper Mallorie Benhardt was able to get her fingertips on both shots keeping them out of the net. Even though the Hatters were able to create a tremendous amount of pressure, it didn't come without a little adversity as
Samantha Markey,
Avery Wise and
Sabrina Comana went down on the pitch with an injury.
Samantha Markey would return for the Hatters in the second half. In the first half Freshman goalkeeper for the Hatters
Mallory Osborn made all three saves on the shots from the Phoenix.
In the second half the Hatters continued putting pressure on the Phoenix as they registered another six shots on goal with a beautiful opportunity for
Kelly Gende in the box that just went over the crossbar. The Phoenix would score first, on a corner kick that was headed in by Zoey Pagels. However in the 81
st minute the Hatters would draw a penalty kick after a shot by
Jillian Therrien was blocked by a Phoenix defenders arm for a handball.
Annika Seem would take the penalty kick for the Hatters as she would shoot it to the left, past the outstretched keeper to tie the game. Each team had a couple more opportunities but both goalkeepers were up to the challenge to keep the game knotted up.
Gende played an important role for the Hatters today as she was seen all over the field generating four total shots with two being on net.
Jillian Therrien and Arvay also both registered four shots for the Hatters. Seem now has four goals on the season for the Hatters with three coming in the form of penalty kicks.
Stetson will look to carry their momentum into their next game against Coastal Carolina on Sunday September 10 at CCU Soccer Stadium. Kick off for that game is set for 1pm.
