GAME NOTES
THE LEAD
The Stetson Hatters are coming off a thrilling 73-71 overtime victory over Queens last Saturday, in which four Hatters reached double-figures. The win put the Hatters back in the win column after dropping the first two games of their homestand. Now Stetson will hit the road for an extended trip that begins with Austin Peay State on Thursday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM at the F&M Bank Arena in Clarksville, Tenn.

INSIDE THE SERIES
This will only be the third meeting between the two programs. Last time they met was on Feb. 16, 2023, when the Hatters defeated the Governors at home 53-58. Austin Peay State won the inaugural game, however, 50-46 on the road when the two first met on Jan. 7, 2023. In their most recent outing with the Governors, Jaelyn Talley and Jamiya Turner both went for double-figures with the former finishing with a 13 point-7 rebound performance.

SCOUTING THE HATTERS (8-11, 3-2 ASUN)
Stetson approaches the matchup with an overall record of 8-11, having recently picked up a conference win over the Queens Royals in their last outing.

Leading the Hatters on offense in their last game was Talley, who recorded a 17 point-7 rebound effort in the win. Coming off the bench for the second consecutive game, the sophomore forward went 6-of-9 from the field in 28 minutes of action.

So far this season, the offensive output for Stetson has been fronted by Turner, who maintains a team-leading 211 points, 11.1 per game. Turner showcases a 44.1 percent shooting accuracy from the field (82 of 186) and a 65.3 percent clip from the free-throw line. The redshirt-senior has reached milestones such as 500 career rebounds and 1,000 career points as she has racked up double-figures for the 12th time this season. On defense, she has recorded a steal in 15 games including three steals in last Thursday's loss.

As a team, Stetson averages 58.5 points per game, as opposed to a conference fourth fewest average points allowed (61.4), on 409-1093 shooting from the field (37.4%) and 75-339 from three-point range. They boast an ASUN fourth-most 704 total rebounds, 37.1 rebounds per game. Stetson has forced opponents into 321 turnovers and capitalized on them with 12.0 points off turnovers.

SCOUTING THE GOVERNORS (9-10, 2-3 ASUN)
Austin Peay currently holds a record of 9-10, sitting 7th place in the ASUN Conference standings after dropping their last three conference games. Their season included some key wins over notable teams like Kentucky and New Mexico State with losses to the likes of Butler, Mercer and Murray State.

The Governors are still seeking to write their wrongs as of late. After starting ASUN play 2-0, the Governors have dropped three straight.

In the 2023-24 Preseason Coaches' Poll, the coaches selected Austin Peay to finish in fourth with 107 points after finishing the prior season with an 11-6 conference record. Looking to build off of an 17-12 campaign last season, the Governors average 64.1 points per game and have outscored their opponents by an average of 1.5 points.

As a team, they have a shooting percentage of 44.8 percent from the field (459-1024) and 31 percent from beyond the arc (88-284). The Governors are rebounding at an average of 34.5 per game with a +1.2 margin and distributing 12 assists a game.

On the defensive end, they've allowed opponents to shoot 39.3 percent from the field (417-1061) and 34.4 percent from three-point range (110-320), fifth and 12th in the ASUN. The defense has also forced 302 turnovers, scoring 14.7 points off them, while tallying 136 steals and 68 blocks.

NEXT UP
Stetson will continue their road trip with the Lipscomb Bisons. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 3:00 PM ET on Saturday, Jan. 27 at Allen Arena in Nashville, TN.
