DeLand, Fla. – Stetson is coming off a momentous 79-75 victory over Charlotte, in preparation for the beginning of conference play. The Hatters will host the Ospreys on Thursday, Jan. 4 for a 7pm tip-off. They will then host Jacksonville on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2pm for Military and Hometown Heroes Appreciation Day.
History
The Hatters are 15-23 against the Ospreys. The teams last met on February 11, 2023. They first faced off on February 1, 1993, with Stetson coming out on top 95-75. Stetson and Jacksonville have matched up 53 times with the Hatters going 20-33. The teams most recently played on February 9, 2023, with Stetson coming out on top 70-67. The first game between the two took place on November 27, 1993.
Scouting the Hatters (8-6, ASUN 0-0)
Stetson continued their winning ways in the state of Florida after getting the win at home against Charlotte. The Hatters are a perfect 8-0, including wins against UCF and FIU. Against the 49ers,
Jalen Blackmon continued to show why he is one of the best scorers in the country, putting up a career high 34 points. Stetson ranks first overall in free throw percentage in the NCAA hitting at an 82.9 clip. Stetson will look to continue their excellent three-point shooting and when the shots aren't falling, they'll look to work the ball inside and draw fouls.
Blackmon leads the Hatters this season averaging 24.1 points per game (third in the NCAA). He is shooting 48.3% from the field and 46% from beyond the arc. Blackmon currently ranks third in the NCAA in 3-point field goals made per game with 4.1 while also ranking first in the NCAA in total 3-point field goals made with 57. Blackmon is tied for fifth, in the NCAA, in free throw percentage hitting on 96.4 percent.
Aubin Gateretse has tallied four double doubles this season while averaging 10.5 points per game and leading the team with 7.4 rebounds per game.
Stephan Swenson, the Hatters' floor general, has been racking up the assists this season totaling 90 assists. Swenson is also averaging 10.8 points per game and 5.1 rebounds while boasting the thirteenth best free throw percentage at the country at 94.6%.
Treyton Thompson is coming off another good game where he grabbed ten rebounds for the Hatters.
Stetson as a team is averaging 78.6 points per game while shooting 46.8% from the field and 37.2% from three. The team averages 10.1 three points per game. The Hatters are averaging 11.8 free throws per game and are first in the NCAA shooting 82.9% from the charity stripe. The team will look to focus on the paint areas as the Ospreys are a rebounding and blocking team.
Scouting the Opponents
Scouting the Ospreys (7-8, ASUN 0-0)
North Florida is coming off three straight losses to Florida State, Georgia, and Miami. Coming off that three game slate the Ospreys will now travel to DeLand for their fourth road game in a row. The Ospreys are averaging 76.8 points per game, shooting 41.3% from the field and 34.1% from three. They are averaging just over 12 threes per game while also shooting 75.4% on their 12 free throws per game. Chaz Lanier leads the Ospreys, averaging 15.9 points per game while also averaging second best 4.4 rebounds per game. Dorian James is a force on the glass grabbing 5.7 rebounds per game while also totaling 15 blocks on the season.
Scouting the Dolphins (9-5, ASUN 0-0)
Jacksonville is coming off a 79-52 victory over Erskine. They will face off against Florida Gulf Coast before taking on the Hatters. The Dolphins are averaging 75.5 points per game, shooting 44.9% from the field, and 30.7% from beyond the arc. They get to the line over 15 times a game but are only shoot 69.3%. Robery McCray V leads Jacksonville, averaging 17 points per game while shooting 52.7% from the field, and 36.5% from three. Bryce Workman is the team leader in rebounds grabbing 7.2 per game. Stephon Payne III and Donovan Rivers protect the rim for the Dolphins as each has tallied 12 blocks tied for the team lead.
