Stetson Erases 19 Point Deficit in 65-62 Win Over EKU

McNeal puts Hatters Ahead with 4 Seconds Left

RICHMOND, KY. - The Stetson University women's basketball overcame their largest deficit of the season in Wednesday night's 65-62 victory over the Eastern Kentucky Colonels at the Baptist Health Arena. The Hatters came back to win after trailing by as many as 19 points as the team would outscore the Colonels 25-14 in the fourth quarter. Khamya McNeal provided the go-ahead basket with just four seconds remaining. The win was the Hatters' fourth straight as they now hold an 11-11 record, 6-2 in conference play.

"It was incredible to watch this group come together in the second half," said Head Coach Lynn Bria.

Leading the offensive effort for the Hatters was Jamiya Turner, who dropped 15 points on 50 percent shooting. The redshirt-senior guard also added six rebounds and four assists to the stat sheet while recording a block and a steal on defense. Six of her points came in the fourth quarter including the shot that gave the Hatters their first lead of the game.

Also with double-figure points in the victory was Jaelyn Talley, who provided a big spark off the bench. The sophomore forward went 5-of-6 from the field for 13 points while snatching a team-high seven rebounds. It was her eighth game of the season with 10+ points and 5 or more rebounds.

The game began with the Colonels jumping out to a 22-4 advantage over Stetson by the end of the first quarter. However, the Hatters would go on to outscore EKU 61-40 over the next three quarters. They score 18 points in back-to-back quarters as they trailed by eight points heading into the fourth.

After shooting just 1-of-10 to start the game, the Hatters would then hit 22 of their next 42 shots including four three-pointers, two of which came in the closing quarter. The defense also tightened up after allowing the Colonels to make 50 percent of their shots in the first. Stetson held EKU to 11-of-36 shooting from the floor while blocking four shots in the fourth.

Jordan Peete and McNeal both hit three-pointers in the final quarter, while Anna Kunzwiler led the team with a pair of shots from beyond the arc. After EKU reclaimed the lead with 1:33 left, the Hatters launched a 6-2 run which included McNeal's game-winning shot with four seconds remaining.

The Hatters will return back home to the historic Edmunds Center as they prepare to host Bellarmine at 2:00 PM on Saturday, Feb. 3 for the start of a three game homestand.
