DeLand, Fla. – Stetson Volleyball fell to Jacksonville in four sets Thursday evening.
Lauren Della and
Elif Yasar each tallied a double-double in the match.
The Hatters fell behind 3-0 early in the first set before Della got Stetson on the board. A couple of points later, the Hatters went on a 4-0 run with two kills from
Kayla Balfour and an ace from Della gave them a 7-6 lead. The two teams battled back and forth tying the match at 8 and 9 before the Dolphins took the lead again. Stetson used a 3-0 run to tie the set at 16, getting a kill and ace from Della. The Hatters would fall behind late in the set and drop it 25-20.
Stetson and Jacksonville fought early in the second set tying the score at every point through 7. The Hatters then fell behind and couldn't find their footing, falling in the set 25-15.
The thirds set started with Stetson taking an early lead, but the Dolphins stole it from them. The Hatters rallied off a 4-0 run to tie the set at 11 with a kill by
Leilani Vitale, Della and an ace by
Anabelle Standish. The two teams would trade the lead back and forth until Stetson opened an 18-15 lead. Yasar pushed the lead to four on a setters dump to make it 19-15. Stetson ended the set on a 5-0 run with kills from Vitale,
Jenna Simmons, Della and Yasar to win the set 25-20 and force a fourth set.
Jacksonville and Stetson couldn't find any separation in the fourth set with the teams tying at every point until it was 8-8. The Hatters fell behind and couldn't reel back in the Dolphins dropping the set 25-17 and the match 3-1.
Della finished tied for the team lead with 13 kills while also grabbing 13 digs for a double-double. Standish was the other Hatters with 13 kills, and she also picked up five digs and two total blocks. Yasar tallied 35 assists and 14 digs for her double-double.
Haruka Sugimoto finished with the team lead in digs with 18.
Stetson will host North Florida on Saturday, November 16 for Senior Night. The team will honor Della, Standish,
Nyah Molina, Vitale, Sugimoto, Yasar starting at 6:00pm.
