Hatters Unable to Overcome Early Deficit in 89-58 Loss

ORLANDO – The Stetson Hatters dropped a tough road contest to UCF, falling 89-58 in a Central Florida rivalry game on Saturday afternoon. Cameron Thomas led the Hatters with 18 points, including a season-high four three-pointers, in the losing effort.

Quentarra Mitchell and Tiasia McMillan each chipped in eight points and four rebounds. Mary McMillan added six points and a season-high seven assists, while Noga Haran led the bench with six points, including two made threes.

Stetson struggled early, falling behind 24-5 at the end of the first quarter. The Hatters couldn't recover in the second, heading into halftime facing a 44-21 deficit.

After the break, Stetson kept UCF's lead from growing further, going on a brief 5-0 run highlighted by a Thomas three-pointer, trimming the margin to 46-28 with 7:39 left in the third. However, the Knights responded with a strong push and extended their lead to 65-34 heading into the final quarter. Stetson turned five offensive rebounds into seven second-chance points during the third, contributing to 13 total points in the period.

The Hatters narrowed the gap to 77-48 before a 6-0 run, capped by a three-pointer from Haran, brought the score to 77-54 with 3:51 remaining. UCF outscored Stetson the rest of the way, ultimately securing the 89-58 victory. Stetson finished the game strong, hitting four three-pointers in the final quarter to account for 12 of its 24 points in the period.

Stetson, now 2-2 on the season, will return home to the Edmunds Center on Tuesday, November 19, to host the FAU Owls at 7:00 PM.
