DAYTONA BEACH, FL – The Stetson women's basketball team suffered a 79-43 defeat to the Bowling Green Falcons in the opening game of the Daytona Beach Classic on Friday, November 29, at the Ocean Center.
Graduate forward Quentarra Mitchell led the Hatters in scoring with 10 points, the only Stetson player to reach double figures. Tiasia McMillan contributed nine points and seven rebounds, while Cameron Thomas, the ASUN Newcomer of the Week following her performance in Stetson's win over Florida Atlantic, added seven points and eight rebounds. Thomas' scoring streak of five consecutive double-digit games came to an end in the loss.
After falling behind 2-0, the Hatters went on a 6-0 run, capped by a three-pointer from Jorah Eppley at the 9:32 mark of the first quarter, to take a 6-2 lead. However, Stetson lost the lead and trailed 18-14 at the end of the first quarter.
The Falcons continued to extend their advantage in the second quarter, and by halftime, Stetson faced a significant 47-25 deficit.
The margin grew even wider after the break, with Bowling Green leading 62-37 heading into the fourth quarter. Despite scoring eight of their 12 points in the paint during the third period, the Hatters could not recover. In the fourth, Stetson was limited to just six points, all in the paint, and ultimately fell by a final score of 79-43.
The Hatters will look to bounce back when they return to the Ocean Center for game two of the tournament, facing the Utah State Aggies at 11:00 AM on Saturday.
