Men’s Basketball's Comeback Effort Falls Just Short Against Omaha

Stetson Men's Basketball fell to Omaha 79-76, falling short in their comeback attempt after being down by 20 in the second half. 
 
Jamie Phillips Jr started off the scoring for the Hatters with a splash from beyond the arcs. The teams continued to battle with neither team to create much of a gap in the first five minutes. The Mavericks pulled ahead of the Hatters by as many as 12 with seven minutes left in the first half. Stetson continued to fight back and chip away using an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to four.  During that run Phillips Jr, and Jordan Wood each hit their shot from behind the arc. The Mavericks hit a their eight three of the half just before halftime and the Hatters trailed 48-41. 
 
Coming out of halftime, Omaha built a 20-point lead over Stetson. After the media timeout with eight minutes left in the second half, Stetson turned it on. They exploding for an 18-3 run to trail 77-74. Phillips Jr and Wood contributed five points apiece with Gross adding three of his own. With just under two minutes to go, the Mavericks went back up by five, but Abramo Canka answered making it 79-76. After an Omaha miss, Alex Doyle had a chance to tie the game with seven seconds left but the shot didn't fall and the Hatters fell 79-76. 
 
Phillips Jr led the Hatters in scoring with 18 followed by Wood with 15. Four different players tied for the team lead in rebounds with five. Phillips Jr and Mehki Ellison tied for the team lead in assists with five and Wood led the team in blocks with three. 
 
Stetson will now travel up Charleston, South Carolina for a match up with the Citadel on Monday, November 11. That game will tip off at 6:00pm.
