It is with deep sadness that Stetson Baseball learns of the passing of legendary Florida State Head Baseball Coach Mike Martin. The Stetson Baseball family extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Coach Mike Martin and the entire Florida State baseball community during this difficult time.
Coach Martin, who dedicated nearly four decades to coaching the Florida State Seminoles from 1980 to 2019, leaves behind an unparalleled legacy. Boasting an extraordinary career, he secured the position as the NCAA all-time leader with an impressive 2,029 career victories. Coach Martin guided the Seminoles to numerous accolades, including 11 Metro tournament titles, four Metro regular-season titles, eight ACC tournament titles, and nine ACC regular-season titles.
Named conference coach of the year seven times, Coach Martin's teams consistently achieved remarkable success, never falling below 40 wins in a season. While he may not have captured a national championship, his teams reached the NCAA Tournament in each of his 40 seasons in Tallahassee, advancing to the College World Series an astounding 17 times.
Stetson Head Coach Steve Trimper expresses his condolences, stating, "Today is a sad day for Seminole nation with the passing of legendary Coach Martin. Number 11 is someone every coach that went up against him tried to emulate. His competitiveness, wisdom, and success will always be unmatched, but we all remember his mentorship and kindness within the coaching world. My condolences go to his wonderful wife Carol, Coach Mike Martin Jr., and the entire Martin family."
