DeLand, Fla- The Stetson softball team dropped the middle two games of the Frank Griffin Classic on Saturday afternoon as the Hatters fell 7-5 to Binghamton and 7-2 to Boston University.
In Stetson's first game of the day, the Hatters fell behind 1-0 in the first inning on a sacrifice fly.
Hannah Marien was able to shut the Bearcats down from the second inning through the fourth inning as the offense was able to get her the lead.
Lath Freeman started the home half of the second inning with a lead-off walk. With
Haley Fox pinch running at first
Kami Eppley was able to find the hole between the first baseman and second baseman to put runners on first and second. With
Briana Robinson at the plate the Hatters would execute a double steal to put both baserunners in scoring position. Robinson was able to cash in on a double to right center plating both.
Annabella McClerren drew a walk and Jordan Stanfill was able to bunt both runners into scoring position for
Gia Napoli. Napoli got a hit bringing in Robinson giving the Hatters a 3-1 lead.
Addison Foster was next up and was able to bring another run home for the Hatters making it 4-1 after two innings. That lead would hold until the fifth inning when Binghamton scored two runs to make it a 4-3 game. The Bearcats tied it in the sixth and then added another in the seventh. Stetson was able to plate one in the seventh inning on an RBI single from Giana Niemeier but fell short 7-5.
In Stetson's second game of the day, the Hatters fell behind Boston University 2-0 in the first inning. The Terriors added a third run in the fourth on a single to center. In the fifth inning Boston University added four unearned runs to make it 7-0. Stetson would strike back tallying one of their own in the bottom of the fifth as McClerren scored on a wild pitch. The Hatters would get another run across the plate in the bottom of the sixth but were unable to push across anymore runs, falling 7-2.
The Hatters are right back at it on Sunday, Feb. 11 for the final day of the Frank Griffin Classic. Stetson will take on Boston University at 12:30pm.
