DeLand, Fla. – Stetson is coming off huge 87-79 victory over conference leader Eastern Kentucky.
Josh Smith and
Aubin Gateretse both recorded a double-double in that game. Smith earned the ASUN Player of the Week award as he averaged 21.5 points, and 11 rebounds in the Hatters' two victories last week.
History
Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast have played 38 times with the Hatters winning twelve of those games. They most recently played on January 20, 2024 down in Fort Myers. The two teams first played on Jan. 1, 2008 with Stetson coming out on top 70-62.
Scouting the Hatters (16-10, ASUN 8-3)
Stetson is in second in the Atlantic Sun standings at 8-3. They sit one game behind Eastern Kentucky who has clinched a berth for the ASUN Championship and one game ahead of Lispcomb. Smith is coming off of his best two game of the season, recording a double-double in each game on his way to winning Player of the Week. Smith also reached a career milestone as he grabbed his 500th rebound in the win over Bellarmine. His 24 points against Eastern Kentucky tied his career high. After missing the non-conference slate of the schedule, Smith is averaging 9.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while playing just under 26 minutes.
Jalen Blackmon scored 27 in the win over Eastern Kentucky and leads the team in scoring averaging 21.1 points per game.
Stephan Swenson has increased his assist total to 158 and is averaging 12.4 points per game. He is now 39 points away from reaching the 1000 point milestone. Gateretse leads the Hatters in rebounds averaging 7.3 per game and blocks with 37. In the win over Eastern Kentucky he recorded his seventh double-double of the season.
Stetson is shooting 46.2% from the field and 36.9% from beyond the arc. The team is averaging 9.5 three points made per game which reflects in their average points per game of 77.1. The team has a 5.6 scoring margin by holding opponents to 71.5 points per game.
Scouting the Eagles (11-15, ASUN 5-6)
Florida Gulf Coast is coming off an 63-52 win over Bellarmine down in Fort Myers. Zach Anderson leads the Eagles in scoring averaging 13.4 points followed by Isaiah Thompson who is averaging 13.3. Keeshawn Kellman leads the team in rebounding with 6.8 per game and blocks with 29. Florida Gulf Coast likes to move the ball around as they have six different players with more than 25 assists but no one with 100 yet in the season. The Eagles are averaging 70.6 points per game while shooting 45% from the field, 35% from three and 69% from the free throw line.

The Hatters will continue their homestand welcoming Queens to DeLand on Thursday Feb. 22 for a 7pm game. Stetson beat the Royals earlier in the season 84-66 and will look to take the lead in the all-time series.
