Hatters Clinch Playoff Berth With 62-44 Win Over Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Stetson University women's basketball team took to the road on Thursday night for the first of a three-game trip, starting with Queens University of Charlotte at Curry Arena. The Hatters defeated the Royals, 62-44, and thus clinched a berth in the ASUN Championship as they hold a 9-3 conference record.

It was the third time the Hatters' defense has held an opponent to less than 50 points in a game and their first since the 51-42 win over Austin Peay.

Leading the Hatters in the victory was Quentarra Mitchell, last week's ASUN Newcomer of the Week. The graduate forward scored 18 points, tying a season-high that she set against North Alabama, and pulled in nine rebounds for the third straight game. Mitchell went 7-of-10 from the field including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, tying Anna Kunzwiler for the most three-pointers in a game this season.

Khamya McNeal followed suit with 16 points on an efficient 6-of-9 shooting. The redshirt junior guard buried a pair of three-pointers in the game, her 8th game this year with multiple threes.

Rounding out the double-figure scorers for Stetson was none other than Jamiya Turner, who provided ten points and five rebounds. She has now scored 10 or more points in 16 games this season while pulling in five or more rebounds in 16 games. Turner also hit a three-pointer in the contest, just her second of the year.

Skylar Treadwell, who hit a pair of clutch threes in the win over Central Arkansas, collected six rebounds in the game and on defense, blocked four shot attempts. The defense as a whole limited Queens to 32.1 percent shooting including 1-of-11 on three-point attempts.

The Hatters jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the first quarter and never trailed in the game. As a team they shot 24-of-52 from the floor (46.2%) and 7-22 (31.8%) from beyond the arc, tied for most threes as a team this season and most since the loss to North Carolina A&T on Dec. 19. Stetson dominated the paint by outrebounding the Royals 39-31 and outsourcing them down low, 30 to 16.

Now 14-12 on the season, Stetson will head to Georgia for a rematch with the Kennesaw State Owls. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, Feb. 17 at the KSU Convocation Center.
