GAME NOTES
THE LEAD
After their four game win streak was snapped by Bellarmine last Saturday, the Hatters rebounded with a victory over the visiting North Alabama Lions. Now Stetson will look to continue their winning ways when they host Central Arkansas on Saturday for the start of a Double-Hatter with the men's team. Tip-off for the women's game is schedule for 2:00 PM on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the historic Edmunds Center.

INSIDE THE SERIES
The two programs have only met twice before with the Hatters coming out victorious in both games. They first met on Feb. 5, 2022 when the Hatters took the inaugural meeting by a decisive 63-45 margin on the road. They last met on jan. 12, 2023 when Stetson defeated the Sugar Bears 57-47 at home. In the home win over Central Arkansas, Khamya McNeal, Jamiya Turner and Jaelyn Talley all reached double-figures.

SCOUTING THE HATTERS (12-12, 7-3 ASUN)
Stetson approaches the weekend with an overall record of 12-12, back to a .500 record for the second time this season. They have won five of their last six games and now hold a 7-4 record at home after defeating North Alabama 62-55.

Leading the Hatters on offense in the win over the Lions was Quentarra Mitchell, who came off the bench and racked up a season-high 18 points and nine rebounds. She went 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, two of which came in the second quarter, and she went 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. She hit three of the Hatters' four three-pointers in the win, the other coming from Jordan Peete in the first quarter.

Jaelyn Talley finished the game with 11 points and three rebounds while going a perfect 5-of-5 from the line. Promise Keshi rounded out the Hatters double-figure scorers with 10 points and five rebounds while registering six shots from the line. Keshi notably was a force on defense, recording a pair of blocks and three steals.

Stetson's lead shot blocker this season, Anna Kunzwiler, added another three blocks to her tally in the winning effort. The freshman guard blocked the most shots in a game since Tatiana Streun blocked three shots against Bellarmine on Jan. 27, 2022.

So far this season, the offensive output for Stetson has been fronted by Turner, who maintains a team-leading 260 points, 10.8 per game. Turner showcases a 43.8 percent shooting accuracy from the field (98 of 224) and a 67 percent clip from the free-throw line. The redshirt-senior has reached milestones such as 500 career rebounds and 1,000 career points. She averages 5.3 rebounds per game and leads the team with 53 assists.

As a team, Stetson averages 58.7 points per game, as opposed to a conference third fewest average points allowed (60.2), on 509-1359 shooting from the field (37.5%) and 92-408 from three-point range. They boast an ASUN fourth-most 888 total rebounds, 37 rebounds per game. Stetson has forced opponents into 400 turnovers and capitalized on them with 12.5 points off turnovers.

SCOUTING THE SUGAR BEARS (16-7, 8-2 ASUN)
Central Arkansas currently holds a record of 16-7, sitting second place in the ASUN Conference standings after their five game win streak was snapped on the road by Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday.

In the 2023-24 Preseason Coaches' Poll, the coaches selected North Alabama to finish in 10th with 35 points after finishing the prior season with a 3-12 conference record. Looking to build off of an 8-18 campaign last season, the Sugar Bears average 66.6 points per game and outscored their opponents by an average of 7.8 points.

As a team, they have a shooting percentage of 42.7 percent from the field (562-1317) and 31.9 percent from beyond the arc (145-455). The Sugar Bears are rebounding at an average of 38.7 per game with a +3.8 margin and they are distributing 10.1 assists a game.

On the defensive end, they've allowed opponents to shoot 36.2 percent from the field (478-1322) and 27.6 percent from three-point range (110-399), both first in the ASUN. The defense has also forced 346 turnovers, scoring 15.3 points off them, while tallying 179 steals and 68 blocks.

NEXT UP
Stetson will hit the road for a three-game road trip starting with Queens University of Charlotte on Thursday, Feb. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM at the Curry Arena in Charlotte, N.C.
