Women's Golf Places Fifth in Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational

Three Hatters place within top 20

ST. GEORGE, UT - The Stetson University women's golf team took to the links for the second time this spring as they competed in the Pizza Hut Lady Thunder Invitational from March 7 to 9 at the Sunbrook Golf Course, a par 72 spanning 5914 yards, in St. Georgia, Utah. 

The Hatters placed fifth out of the 13 teams participating in the event with +44. They began play by posting a team score of 304 before tallying a pair of 302s over the final two rounds to finish with a total of 908.

Leading Stetson in the tournament was Wendy Hsiao, who finished +7 while improving through all three rounds. After starting with a 78 in the opening round, she followed up with a 74 and 71 in rounds two and three. The fifth year from Taiwan shot -1 in on Wednesday to finish with a finals score of 223. She averaged 4.75 on Par 5s, tied for best among all golfers, while tying for third with teammate Filippa Jansson for a tournament third-most birdies with 11.

Jansson finished close behind for the Hatters, tying ninth with a +8 throughout the tournament and a +2 in the final round. She began with a pair of 75s before closing out play with a 74 on Wednesday, finishing with 224 points. 

Newcomer Elizabeth Eberle placed T18th with +11 over the three day stretch. Eberle began play with a 72 before recording a 78 and 77 in the final two rounds. 
She excelled on the Par 4s with a 4.07 average, tied for fourth lowest in the tournament. Eberle sank seven birdie putts while recording 32 pars.

Lisa Colee also finished with 32 pars as the senior from DeLand placed T47 with +20. She posted scores of 79, 75 and 82 for a total score of 236.

Julieta Oviedo rounded out the Hatters performers with a +29, placing 70th in the tournament. After starting play with an 86, she rebounded with scores of 79 and 80 for a final of 245.

As a team, the Hatters averaged 3.47 on Par 3s, 4.26 on Par 4s and 5.13 on Par 5s, the latter of the three ranking second best. The team also recorded a total of 147 pars and 32 pars, fourth most.

Stetson will return to action on Monday March 18 for the start of the Spring Break Shootout in Lake Jovita, Fla, hosted at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club (South Course).
